Claire Harvey
A major milestone for the London2018 bid was hit with a community forum hosted to bring everyone up to speed on where we’re at in our bid to bring the Gay Games to London.
Approximately 60 representatives from London’s sports, community groups, and venue operators came together in central London for an update from bid co-chair Alex Davis as well a presentation from Paralympic athlete Claire Harvey who is a patron of the London2018 bid.
What was great was the level of enthusiasm and engagement from everyone present – lots of questions and discussion, but very much focused on “how” and not “why” so there’s a real sense of momentum beginning to build around London’s bid for the games.
The next key milestones for the bidding process are:
- 31/10/12: Licence agreement signed with bidding cities
- 28/2/13: Bid book submitted
- 31/5/13: Short list vote
- August 2013: Site inspections
- TBD: Bid presentations and vote
- TBD: Host city announced
- 16/8/13: Handover in Cleveland
Through the bid process there are a number of fees that need to be paid, with fees due at the end of October 2012 and the end of February 2013. Our 100Out campaign is our key fundraising initiative and is the most effective way that you and your organisation can demonstrate your support for London2018 – let’s bring the Gay Games to London!
