Gay Games sports are open to everyone
- Men and women
- Gay and straight
- Novice and elite
- Recreational athlete and Olympian
- Young and old
- Abled and disabled
There are no selections or qualifications to compete in the Gay Games, other than those that may be imposed by the relevant sanctioning body.
The Gay Games sports programme endeavours to offer sports for all types of athletic skill, for all body types, and team sports and individual sports.
As a rule, Gay Games sports events follow international rules and regulations, and are sanctioned when possible.
Specific rules for Gay Games sports are found in the Gay Games Red Book for Sport.
Rules and competitive divisions may be modified to increase safety, to offer more competitive opportunities, and to take into account specificities of LGBT sport. For example, same-sex pairs are not allowed in mainstream DanceSport, Figure Skating, or Bodybuilidng, but are integral parts of the Games Games.
